  • Strolling…

I love to stroll the net, looking for sites and blogs that capture my imagination, or offer me a look into someone else's world. I recently stumbled on Melissa Loves and promptly bookmarked it.

So there I was, getting in my daily dose of bookgirl’s nightstand, when I was confronted with the need to contemplate what books I can’t live without. 10 of them to be exact, per The Written World. Talk about daunting! Hmm…

  1. American Gods – Neil Gaiman
Gaiman’s brilliance is blinding, truly. As I was reading this novel, I came to crave it. I’d carry it around with me everywhere I went, sneaking in a page here, savoring a chapter as often as I could. It’s one of those books that is attached to a memory in my head; I know it will stay with me forever.
  2. The Book of Disquiet – Fernando Pessoa
Open this book to any page and you’ll find beauty. Pessoa knew how to use language, how to make simple words evocative, thrilling. I never felt the need to rush through it, either. It was remarkably soothing – to me, at least.
  3. If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler – Italo Calvino
This one was a marvel. Just amazing.
  4. Twilight & New Moon – Stephenie Meyer
I had to group these two together because I can’t separate them. Edward and Jacob are two sides of a coin for me. And, you know, I love these books more than I can say.
  5. The Beekeeper’s Apprentice – Laurie R King
I am a huge(!) Sherlock Holmes fan, and King revived him so wonderfully in her Mary Russell series. Justice Hall particularly blew me away.
  6. Repent, Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman – Harlan Ellsion
The imagery! The beautiful jumble of words! There’s no way around it: Harlan is a genius.
  7. Guilty Pleasures & A Kiss of Shadows – Laurell K Hamilton
It doesn’t matter if her series have been sliding into, um, interesting territory – I still love those original books and Jean-Claude is still a pivotal vamp for me. And then, of course, there’s my love for Frost to consider as well…
  8. The Lightning Thief – Rick Riordan
I love, love, love the Percy Jackson books! Riordan is a great storyteller and I’ve reread the first two books in the series several times over.
  9. A Game of Thrones – George R R Martin
An incredible start to an incredibly ambitious series. Could not put it down.
  10. Gosh, I don’t know! There are a million more! (Okay, well, maybe not a million. But there are a lot more!) This is just impossible…

  1. I know, this was hard! I was so tempted to list New Moon – hee,hee.. I haven’t heard of some of these titles but I’ll be looking for them :)

  2. Yeah, I took the easy way out and grouped them together! There was just no way I could have left them off the list. Edward and Jacob would have felt bad. And we can’t have hurt vampire and werewolf feelings, now can we? :)
