Even though I knew about Etsy prior to Carl’s post on Anne-Julie Aubry, I hadn’t spent much time browsing the site. Probably because some part of me was whimpering in fear of just how much money I’d end up spending in an hour. Still, I couldn’t help myself and spent a few hours on there yesterday. I’d say I showed considerable restraint, purchasing only one item, one item I’d like to share with you because I was hard pressed to make a decision on which piece of art I wanted to buy from a particular Norwegian artist.
“Blue butterflies”
<– This is the one I ended up purchasing after toggling a few that I especially loved. According to Annette’s flickr site: “These illustrations are done on old / vintage Norweigan bookpages.
Some of them are dated back to 1851.”
For a book lover, how much better can it get? So I immediately fell in love with the background, but more than that, I love the whimsy of the piece. I love how certain parts, like the butterflies, are in color but nearly transparent so that the text shows beneath the paint, and I love that her beautiful face is solid.
This particular piece is part of a series “Illustrations on bookpage“; she has another series, “Collage hair girls,” which boasts more lovely pieces.
But now, instead of having me ramble on, I’d like to share a few other tempting pages:
There were a few from the Collage series that I really liked, but the pictures wouldn’t upload, so here are the direct links to this one and that one.
Visit carambatack’s Etsy shop, take a look around, and maybe you’ll find something that speaks to you, too.

wow, these are incredible and I think you picked my favorite of all of them to buy! Hmmmm…you really shouldn’t have shown me her store
I’ll have to spend more time on it later. I love that she uses book pages, that’s too cool!
Chris ~ It took me forever to settle on that one, but I’m really, really happy that I went with it.
Etsy is way too dangerous! (But too much fun to not browse, too.) Her stuff is really nice and the artist is sweet; I love the fact that I’m going to have a piece of art from Norway!
Yes, etsy is a dangerous place to hang around! I’ve bought quite a bit of stuff just from Anne-Julie Aubry over the last few weeks. This stuff is really fun. I agree with Chris, this is a fantastic one that you bought and one of my favorites of her work. I’ll be adding her to my favorites list over there at etsy.
Carl ~ The wonderful thing is that, not only is the art lovely, Annette was incredibly nice. That always makes it that much better. I can’t wait to see what she does in the future. I know this won’t be my last purchase from her.
I sooo wanted to get a piece from Anne-Julie’s jewelry sale, but the time difference threw me off and I ended up missing out. I’ll have to plan better next time!
