I love to stroll the net, looking for sites and blogs that capture my imagination, or offer me a look into someone else's world. I recently stumbled on Melissa Loves and promptly bookmarked it.

The Irresistible Review Challenge

I was going to resist this one. Really. Until I read a review that made me want to go careening to the nearest bookstore this.very.minute to grab a copy of the book under review (and I would have been seriously disappointed, too, as it’s not being released until mid-June. Dang it.) So a review posted on things mean a lot has tipped me over the edge and I’m going to gleefully take up The Irresistible Review Challenge.

Books & Other Thoughts is hosting the challenge which runs between now and September 1st. The rules are fairly simple:

1. Read 8 books between now and Labor Day (September 1) that you were inspired to read after reading a fellow book-blogger’s review. Ideally the books will be ones you’d never heard of or would probably not have considered reading had it not been for the review. If you expanded your horizons or went beyond your usual reading comfort zone because of the review, all the better!
2. Write a review of the book on your blog.
3. (The most important step) Make sure you link to the review that inspired you to read the book in the first place!
4. Books read for other challenges count.
5. There is no need to make a list ahead of time – for this type of challenge, it’s probably best to remain open to serendipity in the bookblogosphere!

Even though I may not be able to read 8, I’m going to try, and I know which one will top the list: Tigerheart by Peter David. Nymeth’s review paired with a gorgeous cover was all it took – now I can’t wait for its release!

Also a distinct possibility is Lynn Flewelling’s The Bone Doll’s Twin. I’ve already read (and loved) books in Flewelling’s other series (the Nightrunner series) and I’d been meaning to give this one a go, but…After reading Chris’s review it’s no longer one I can put off.

So there’s two, at least, towards the eight, and I’m sure I’ll pick up on more. It’ll just give me an excuse (as if I need one!) to seek out more book blogs to read. :)

  1. I just read Nymeth’s review of Tigerheart too and it went straight onto my wishlist! Doesn’t it sound great?? I hope you enjoy The Bone Doll’s Twin as much as I did. It was wonderful. I’m sure I’ll be reading The Nightrunner series for this challenge based on your recommendation!

  2. Chris ~ It sounds fantastic! Cannot wait to get my hands on a copy!! Flewelling tells a really good story with great characters and your review was wonderful. I’m really looking forward to reading The Bone Doll’s Twin.

  3. I hope you enjoy Tigerheart as much as I did!
