Finally! Richard Armitage as Thorin

The slow and steady parade of Dwarves was perilously close to becoming an exercise in exasperation of the “alright already! They’re all well and good now where is Thorin?!” variety. And now here he is. My already incredibly high sense of excitement over this film has ratcheted up considerably.

I’m not sure I can take how brilliant this cast is.

  1. Excellent! But I wonder whether the film is going to take the book to a level of high seriousness that I don’t recall actually being there. I remember the dwarves as squabbling, selfish, greedy and comic as well as ruthlessly business-like and money-minded! Thorin here looks a really exciting leader, but I hope they include the other stuff too….

    • Funny you should mention that. In a recent article (for which magazine/news source I can no longer recall), Richard Armitage raised the subject, saying that there was going to be more humor in The Hobbit. I can’t wait to see how Jackson and cast are going to pull this off!

    • 2012 seems so far away…Not that I want to rush the time by. No siree. In fact, I kinda of like wallowing in the excitement and anticipation for this one, constantly checking for new pictures and updates on filming.

  2. So that’s what he looks like as a dwarf. Hmm. Not his hottest look, but I am SO looking forward to this movie. More than LoTR. This was my favorite book of Tolkien’s. By far!!!

  3. I’m still in two minds about this film! The cast looks amazing, but The Hobbit is probably my favourite book from my childhood and part of me thinks the film will ruin re-reads for me lol.

  4. When I think “Thorin Oakenshield”, this is not what comes to mind… I thoroughly enjoyed LoTR, but Jackson did a good job of casting all of the characters. I fear I will be disappointed this time around…

  5. Hi there! I’m new and just discovered your blog and it is brilliant! Just wanted to tell you that!
Oh, and I am also excited about Richard Armitage. (Um, I’m assuming you’ve seen him in North & South or Spooks (MI-5))
    Lovely blog

    Thanks!

    • Thank you! :)

North & South was my introduction, but I quickly tracked down and consumed all things Armitage (that I could, pickings being somewhat limited here in the states. I’m still itching to see Between the Sheets and a few other things I can’t seem to find.).
