Tune In Tuesday: Recent Finds

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by GReads!

While I may not have written up a Tune In Tuesday post in a good long while that doesn’t mean I haven’t been stocking up on new (to me) music at every possible opportunity. If I went longer than a few days without doing so, in fact, someone should take my temperature, because clearly I would be unwell. Here, then, are a few of my recent finds (oh, and one I’ve had in my back pocket for a while now).

Tune In Tuesday: Sleeping At Last’s “Snow”

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by GReads!

I nearly skipped out on this week’s Tune in Tuesday, because I couldn’t settle on a song. But then a melody teased me, playing in the back of my mind, and I had it.

Sleeping At Last’s “Snow” is achingly beautiful. It’s at once soothing and, somehow, saddening. As much as I love “Turning Page,” which has gained traction for being featured on the Breaking Dawn soundtrack, it’s “Snow” that I keep coming back to. It’s this song that moves me, that has images dancing in my head like those lamps with paper shades, pictures cut to depict a story against the wall as it spins.

It brings to mind a childhood not my own; one from centuries ago. I can’t…explain it.

And then there’s this line: “Because life without revision will silence our souls.” And that is pretty much perfection. Continue reading

Tune In Tuesday: Rachael Yamagata

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by GReads!

The name of the album this week’s Tune In Tuesday track comes from is Happenstance. It’s apt, really, because that’s exactly how I found Rachael Yamagata. But now that I have, well, I won’t leave discovering more and new music by this emotionally engaging singer to chance.

Deciding on a song to plug in this post took time; I went back and forth, nearly settled on “I’ll Find a Way,” but when it came down to it…The decision was laughably easy. It had to be “I Want You.”

Folks, this song. Oh, this song. It’s jazzy and infectious; it’s glorious and evocative; it’s just right for Yamagata’s smoky-like-a-dozen-candles-in-a-small-intimate-room voice. And it begins with this: “You sat down next to me like poetry to wine.”

One last thing: prepare yourself for trumpet. It’s flirtatious and dead sexy here. Especially at the end…*swoons* Continue reading

Tune In Tuesday: The Take It Away, Ladies Edition

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by GReads!

To join or not to join a weekly meme. Isn’t that always the question? In this case, seeing as how I’m moving towards incorporating various forms of media here – look for television talk, movie reviews, and so on in the future – there was no good reason for me to not jump on the Tune In Tuesday train. It may be that I’m an irregular contributor, though, and that’s okay. From now on, this blog is a happy-making zone. No chores for me! (Besides, that is, the everyday, did-I-forget-the-laundry-in-the-dryer-again type ones.)

On to the music!

The lovely lady propped against that turquoise door is Yael Naim. Her song “Lonely” has been on non-stop repeat since I found it, which happened to be at exactly the right time considering how well-suited it was (is) to a fic I’m working on. The tone, the lyrics…Gave my motivation a shot in the arm, set the mood for my writing, and just…Well, I love it, see. I hope you do too.

The equally lovely lady of the orangish-red lip is Lucia. I know very little – next to nothing, really – about her beyond the fact that I thoroughly enjoy the sound of her voice, her piano playing, and will definitely keep my eye out for anything she produces in the future.

Click through for the songs.
